A little bit about the cheer program at UALR:
Scholarships – It could change, but this past year we offered…
$250 per semester – 1st year cheerleader

$500 per semester – 2nd year cheerleader
$750 per semester – 3rd year cheerleader

$1,000 per semester – 4th year cheerleader

2008 Scholarships...  Pending summer fundraising, our GOAL is to offer the top 20 cheerleaders $1,000 per semester.  The remaining team members will not receive a scholarship, but all equipment will be provided (uniforms, t-shirts, etc.) like any other team member.

Time involved – If you will need to work a part time job while in college, UALR’s program would benefit you.  We only cheer home basketball games for the men’s and women’s teams.  We do not cheer for any other sport, and we do not travel to away games.  The team will most likely cheer ALL men's games and split up to cheer every other women's basketball game in 2008.

PracticesPractice times for 2008-2009 have yet to be determined, but typically we practice Tuesday/Thursday nights from 7:30pm to 10pm and Sundays from 5:30-8pm at Cheer City United in West Little Rock.  Summer practices are flexible with advance notice of absence.
Summer camp - We plan to attend the NCA Collegiate Summer Camp at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX.  It is typically held the last week in July.  We would practice the week prior to the camp.  NCA will post camp dates at www.varsity.com.  All team members would be expected to attend camp and all practices the week prior to camp.

Competition – Competing at nationals is a possibility but not guaranteed.  There are many factors involved including fundraising, team work ethic, grades, and skill.

Cost – Cheerleaders are required to purchase plain white shoes (any style).  Girls are required to purchase plain black hot pants (any style).  All other required items are purchased from the cheer budget - many of the items are yours to keep (t-shirts, sweatshirts, back packs, etc.  Uniforms are school property.)

You will need to fill out the TRYOUT PACKET prior to participating in the tryout clinic or tryouts.   If you are unable to download it Contact Stan to have one emailed or faxed to you (or to your school).   Email – stabor99@comcast.net   Phone – 501 413 9854
